How to Achieve Your Big Scary Goal
Do you have a big, scary goal? You know…the one that makes you want to puke a little when you think about it. Maybe it’s something you think about all the time and then quickly dismiss it with “What am I thinking? I can’t do that.”
There is only one way to achieve success in reaching your goals.
Take MASSIVE ACTION.
Most of us try something, fail, then maybe try something else and fail. Then we give up. We try it once and then quit if it doesn’t work out. Can you relate?
Or we prepare for action, which is what we call passive action. It seems like we’re taking action, but what we are really doing is consuming instead of creating. Maybe we read everything we can about it or watch tons of videos. Or we take a course. All the reading, listening and watching feels like action, but they actually keep you from your goal.
Passive action doesn’t get you the results you really want.
You’re in passive action if you’re thinking about doing something…writing down your ideas, consuming information. There is no risk involved. What you’re really doing in passive action is hiding so you can avoid failure.
I know…I did this for months. Taking classes, going to conferences, reading books, listening to podcasts and writing down ideas. It felt like I was doing something, but I really wasn’t. I thought, “I just need to learn more” then I’ll be ready. Which is why I didn’t get the result I wanted. I wasn’t taking massive action.
Massive action is taking action until…until you reach your goal.
It’s anticipating obstacles and being willing to fail and try again…over and over again until you get it right. It’s keeping your eyes on the goal and being willing to do anything to get there. You will try different things, you will fail, and you will keep tweaking your actions until you reach the outcome you want. THAT is massive action.
It’s face planting over and over again because you’ve pushed yourself to take big action. It’ll be scary and it may even involve you failing for everyone to see. It’s all okay. Failing is just learning all the things that don’t work so you can figure out what does. Allow yourself to fail. But don’t let it stop you from getting up and trying again.
You can do big, scary things my friend. The only thing you have to do to succeed is not quit.
