The Lie About Finding Your Purpose

Do you ever wonder what your purpose in life is? Like, what you were put on this earth for?

I found myself wondering this several years ago. Thinking, “surely, I’m meant to do more than this.” So, I did a lot of soul-searching, classes, read books, etc.

I learned what my natural strengths were and my “zone of genius.” And figured out what I was really passionate about and what I enjoyed doing.

But what I wasn’t expecting to learn was that going after the things I wanted to do in order to live out my purpose wasn’t going to be all rainbows and daisies. For some reason, I had this belief that once I figured out my purpose, it would be easy and always feel amazing.

That’s the lie about finding our purpose.

Once we are on the path to what we’re meant to be doing that life becomes easier,  we think we become happier, and fear and self-doubt don’t exist.

Oh, how I wanted this to be true.

But the truth is that when we decide to grow and evolve into the next version of ourselves, we will always carry self-doubt and fear with us. It doesn’t go away because we’re living our purpose.

I believe that everyone’s purpose here on earth is to grow…to become the very best version of themselves and then to offer out that value of themselves to the world in some way.

And all the crappy emotions are just part of the deal. We have to be willing to feel the discomfort, fear, and self-doubt that will come up in order to become this next-level version of ourselves, living out our purpose.

Very rarely does the pursuit of our purpose feel easy.

What usually happens is that our brain freaks out. But, it’s just doing its job…trying to be efficient and keep things easy.

It’s all part of the process of growth.

Joyfully,
